Notes:

This is the best comedy that Canada has ever produced. It's based in a fictional town called Dog River, Saskatchewan, centered around the local gas station and diner. The show is the brain child of comedian Brett Butt, who plays the owner of the gas station. It also served to launch the careers of many of its cast.

Dan For Mayor

Premiered In: 2010 Status: Ended
2 Seasons, 30 Minute Episodes

Notes:

Fred Ewanuick, who played the bumbling loser, Hank in Corner Gas stars in this Canadian comedy about a small town bartender who bumbles his way into office. While his character is mildly more intelligent in this role, the comedy style is similar. Unfortunately, the show had a short run.

Hiccups

Premiered In: 2010 Status: Ended
2 Seasons, 30 Minute Episodes

Notes:

Brett Butt and his wife, Nancy Robertson star in this second Canadian comedy series created by Brett Butt. Brett designed the show with the intentions of showcasing his wife's comedic skills, but like Dan For Mayor, both had relatively short runs. So, for now it looks like Canadians will have to wait before they see their beloved stars of Corner Gas return to the small screen.

How It Should Have Ended

Notes:

This is a web series that went viral. It started with a well designed Flash animation, which made fun of the ending of Matrix: Revolutions. Before long, the creators, Daniel Baxter and Tommy Watson had a cult following. Four years later, Starz Digital Media came on board and granted the team access to licensing that allowed them to create a new short every month. Always funny, usually irreverent, these short web clips are hilarious and well worth watching.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Premiered In: 2005 Status: Ongoing
10 Seasons, 30 Minute Episodes

Notes:

This is one of those shows I love to hate. In the beginning I couldn't get enough of the team's antics, but before long, it became repetitive and mundane. I know there are many dedicated fans of the show, otherwise it wouldn't have lasted as long as it has, but I don't think it can last much longer. The story centers around a group of 4 friends who own a bar in a shady part of Philadelphia. Danny DeVito joined the team in the second season, which may explain why it's been able to remain on the air so long. I don't deny that it has some very funny moments, but from week to week, I'm finding it less entertaining than it once was. This is one of those shows that ran its course quickly and will hopefully end soon.

Notes:

Watch celebrities face-off in comical lip sync competitions.

Robot Chicken

Premiered In: 2005 Status: Ongoing
7 Seasons, 20 Minute Episodes

Notes:

This show is the brainchild of comedic genius Seth Green. It's a series of 20 minute stop-motion animations that mock childhood toys, shows and comic book heroes of the past and present. Each episode is a stand alone series of random and unrelated clips. Warning, the content is very adult and not suitable for younger viewers, at all.

School House Rock

Premiered In: 1973 Status: Ended
6 Seasons, 10 Minute Episodes

Notes:

These short cartoons were played between several other shows and a lot of fun. Their intent was to teach kids, while playing a song on various subjects. There are not enough shows like this, anymore.
